A consulting firm with operations on multiple continents was nearing
completion on a major project at an oil terminal and wanted to share the
results with potential clients without having to dedicate an internal
resource to the chore of writing the case study. Building on a history of
collaborations,
the company called on Steve Gozdecki to drive the project.
Steve began the engagement by collecting and analyzing
the client's documentation on the project and researching oil terminal
operations to develop an interview guide in order to gain additional detail on
the project. He then conducted interviews with the
consulting team and developed an initial outline before writing a 2000-word draft in
British English. A follow-up conference call with the client filled in the gaps
and identified several areas for improvement that Steve addressed in a second
draft, which was reviewed and approved with a minimum of changes by the company
that operates the oil terminal.
Now, the client has an attractive marketing piece that
demonstrates its ability to instill change for its own clients. And it
didn't have to take any consultants away from billable projects to get the job
done.
